WINCHLESS (KJ10)

The Winchless is a KJ10 flying ascender which couples to a hoist (not supplied) and a rubber band. As its name suggests, it is an alternative to a winch. When releasing the rope, the rope clamp opens automatically. This system is also known as the crossbow. It is particularly appreciated on sailboats where a winch cannot be used. You will find him aboard several Dragons… well hidden under the bridge.

  • The Winchless Karver allows tension to be taken up on a sheet or a halyard using a hoist
  • Can replace a winch on small sailboats
  • Adaptable on the deck or on the mast
  • Allows to control the tension of a remote rope
  • The Winchless can be coupled to a trolley on a rail to avoid friction
  • The integrated blocker is a KJ10. Its workload is therefore 1T and the authorized rope diameters range from 5 to 10 mm
  • The winchless can be installed on one of our KMS40 rail carriages to avoid premature wear when it is used on the deck
  • The installation is quite simple : the elastic is hooked on the front to return the ascender when there is no tension. A small fixed rope is attached to the back to automatically open the ascender when the tension is released. The hoist is attached to the winchless.
  • Be careful ! The hoist is not delivered. We recommend that you do this with our range of KBO blocks. There is no restriction on the number of strands.
  • Here is the breakdown of a winchless maneuver :
o Take up the slack of the sheet (or the halyard) by hand
o As soon as the efforts are too great, you use the hoist
o The winchless closes automatically on the sheet and the tuck
o You recover the slack of the ‘listen and you block it
o The winchless returns to its starting position to be picked up again by the hoist
o You alternate hoist and listen until the desired setting
o You block the hoist line to maintain the setting
